After 27 long years and numerous line-up changes EXODUS are back again with ‘The Atrocity Exhibition… Exhibit A’. With the fair success they gained from 05’s ‘Shovel Headed Killing Machine’ and extensive touring taking in the US, UK, Japan and Australia it was always going to be an interesting album to follow.
Exodus don’t disappoint. After a short but predictable intro they fly into ‘Riot Act’, a song that doesn’t throw in many surprises but does get those neck muscles working.

The next few songs all clock in at over 8 minutes each and show Exodus toying with more complicated structures and even the occasional melodic vocal line. But the main beef of this album is the title track. ‘The Atrocity Exhibition’ is a beast of a song taking you through an aural exhibit of fast and heavy discordant riffage and slow stomping fist in the air epic solos.

Closing this album with the track ‘Bedlam 1-2-3′ was a fantastic choice. After a solid build up, it comes tearing out your stereo at 200bpm and melts your face with some absolute killer solo riffs. At 8 minutes exactly the song fades to an end but after 10 minutes of silence an unexpected bluegrass version of ‘Bonded by Blood’ starts up their first ever recorded song proving these guys are still having fun after all these years.

Put simply, this album is a solid slab of thrash with a dash of sophistication in places. The band are already in the studio and have at least 4 tracks down for 08’s Exhibit B.

  1. Gary Holt’s and Lee’s solos on this album are killer.
